Title: Heraldic pendant?
Post by: Trys on July 12, 2016, 12:21:29 PM
Hello all, have had a break from detecting for the last 3 or so years, but am gradually getting my interest back. Have not yet bought a new machine, but been doing plenty of research and looking through my finds again!!

My last interesting find which I never had ID'ed is this - looks like three lions which is obviously English, but what would that be doing in westest wales!?

If Mark is right about dating there's every reason to find one around here Trys.
Check out history of Pembroke castle, Tenby castle. Loads of Civil War activity.
Lovely find.

Thanks both. Not sure on the civil war date as I would have thought that this would be a little earlier than that but who knows. It was found about two fields away from a field that is named 'kings meadow' due to Henry vii having set up camp there on his way to Bosworth, but again I would have thought that this would date a little earlier. There were plenty of battles between the Welsh and English so could be from an envading English army in the 12th/13th century!?

Yes that's a Medieval harness pendant 13/14th C. Likely it was something to do with the invading English.

Cheers Al  :) Not back in the game yet, but will hopefully make a detector purchase in the next few months  - Wish I'd never sold the T2! I think it will be another T2 that I end up going for, although some interesting new machines around since I last looked!
Hope you are keeping well and still finding plenty of treasures - please give my regards to all at the club!
