A farmer excited by the roman helmet find who lives near me is allowing me on these fields once the maize comes off in a month. Crop2 shows an old hall, demolished in 1960. Are there circles in crop3, could these be houses?
Crop1 is obviously an old hedge but these seems to be a large rectangular shape too. I'll post any good finds on here.

Best of luck with your fields Rob. Looks like 2 circles in crop3 but crop 2 looks the most promising. Hope you find some goodies.

Rob no3 looks very interesting, I don't think it's a hut circle as it has concentric circles which is more reminiscent of a ring or disk barrow. It could even be an enclosure, but it is difficult to gauge the scale.

What is the scale on crop 2? Looks like a villa outline but difficult to tell with no scale to work with.

No Eric, Rob has said in his post it is the remains of an old hall.

Crop2 is a hall. I've hidden the name. Its has geneology references back to 1700 from the local church. The map is 1875.
On the nearby field the bigger crop circle is 50m across so not a house like I first thought then!

If it is 50m then I would have to go with an enclosure, as most barrows don't exceed 30m although it's not impossible and the lower one does appear to be slightly smaller, Disc barrows usually appear in two's or four's and are mainly cremation burials from the early to middle bronze age.

Hall or Villa it looks promising. I found where there was a Stately House near where I live but can't get on it. It's now a Farm turned Equestrian centre and all the fields are electric fenced with horses in them.

Hope you have better luck Rob.

Looking at 2nd pic again I think there might have been something much older top right of the Hall.
Check it out Rob.

Yes but have you checked the neighbouring fields, there are more. They might be interesting from an historical and archie. point but by my experience, so far, not worth chasing after unless they show up on ploughed land. Anything that might have been left behind has either gone or sunk too deep for most detectors to pick up.
Very often, though, these sites have been occupied through the centuries so might bear looking at.
I have one in the offing that has a disused church, orig. built 1200's, reputedly on a previous religious site. I can clearly make out several circles and squares around it. Only thing in my way are cows(again) and a stuburn farmer. Huh
Best of luck with it if you try.
