Lovely find David congratulations, well it's virtually impossible to find anything older made of metal in the UK so you might as well give up now :D Not 100% but think it's a Migdale type flat axe so 2.200 to 1.900 BC ;)

Hi David, yes, went back armed with some netting spikes for markers.  Spent 2 hours going back and forth over the area but sadly no more gold coins.  I did find a few bits & bobs I'd missed first time though, mostly domestic like a tiny thimble and lots of bits of cut lead, probably off flashing.
Field pretty well off limits now, the crop is well and truly up. I have found out that the Farm has been used as a meeting point for the Hunt for many years so I reckon the gold coin is a one off pocket loss.
It's been very nice finding the coin but I had more pleasure from finding the Lizzy hammered. I know there has been a farm there way back to the Normans and probably before. It's great proving a theory.
I'd love to find an axe head. I've found worked flints but an axe is something special, you lucky man.

Hi val, i know what you mean as you say could be a one off , on many a field we have all found one of this or one of that and then expect the field to be full of stuff, get all excited mark it out , grid it,   a few hours later the reality dawns , i ve done that so many time' s.

That was what i expected after a brief look over those new fields found the hammy within a few minutes , so ok great expectations hours later nothing else of note.

Did manage the axe head though in the next field and in the process of gridding that out , theory being if bronze age man lost that what else has he lost , the torc is just around the corner .
