Tried hard to research the seals Phil, a couple had dates on of 1873, but the ones with writing on i could'nt find nothing. But Chef(Geoff), done a bit of research for me and come up with the following : Ok the name Richou is not the most uncommon name in France but in Angers in the Anjou region there are only a few and this one in particular would fit with what you are looking for. they were or are a very wealthy family, looking at there profession I would say the sacks contained eitherSeed, flour or grain for milling. (so could you be on the site of an old mill?) the"A.R. Richou Brothers" denote they are 19thC. the A.R stands for Alexander (II) (1835-1897) and René-Eugene (1841-1900). By the way "Frere" isn't a name it means brothers.Ace ;) |
