A few words spring to mind such as:

Sacrilegious,      treachery,      abomination,      Aaaargh!      WHY Huh,

and

"You're 'avin' a larf ain't ya"

But hey-ho, it's your hammie  Roll Eyes

As Tony says, it's your coin at the end of the day.
If you hadn't found it then it may very well have been destroyed by some piece of agri machinery and lets face it we all go "Wow! nice hammy" but at the end of the day it's only a coin that someone lost, with little or no archaeological value.
If you bought one from ebay, I bet you wouldn't think twice about using it, I know I wouldn't but for some weird reason, because it was found by us, it somehow seems more precious. It's almost as if, when we buy something we own it but when found, we don't feel wholly comfortable about having it. It almost feels borrowed.
If you don't mind loosing it then go ahead. Wink

Do it man! For years I used a 1690 shilling.

I keep swapping any english hammies I find for early milled shillings, also I've made quite a few coins from roman to silver milled to make cufflinks for work.

Still not managed to swap my John short cross (chichester mint!!) so it languishes in a box, if I could find another john short cross I might make more cufflinks lol
