Bristol hammies wanted

« Reply #7 on: January 19, 2013, 11:00:44 AM »

Nick, I live in Bristol and went to the Bristol museum in the summer to take a look at part of theThornbury hoard that was found about 5 miles from my house. I got there had a quick walk around looking for the coins and i found nothing. I asked a man who worked there where the coins are, he told me they are all locked up out of sight Angry  Bristol museum even got a lottery grant to show there coins off but then decided to take it all down and put it out of sight Huh WHAT A JOKE.
All thats in that place to look at is egyptian stuff, stuffed animals, a airplane on the roof and a few bits and bobs, oh yeah and 1 roman bronze statue that someone found on Horfield common that is very nice.
Alot of nice finds are in that place and nothing is shown, all they are intersted in is the history of other countries.

To be honest Nick I hope you get it back so at least someone can enjoy it

Dale i dont think they will want to keep it anyway unless there are some rare coins amongst them, Laura wasnt too optimistic about that. So i reckon i will get them back.

Totaly agree with you Dale I walked from town all the way up park street to museum back last year what an absolute waste of time they once had a large collection of Roman finds etc from many local places, nothing was on display all locked away and could only be viewed by prior appt what a joke.I complained and made a comment in visitor book, Angry Angry

Several years ago I dreamt I was near a hedge, on a slope and had just found a hoard, although it was quite small, but I could not remember what the coins were. A couple of years later I was detecting in Oxfordshire and had found very little so moved to a different field. As I walked up the hill I had the feeling I had seen it before, then just off of the hedge I had a good signal which turned out to be a small hoard of coins- unfortunately not hammies but more modern Geo VI and Viccy Half crown. Everthing seemed to fit the dream though.
