Watch out for new digital speed cameras.

They are on:

Colchester Avenue, Cardiff

Rover Way, Cardiff

A4119 at Miskin (by Corner Park garage)

The Mumbles in Swansea.

These cameras are on 24/7 and are digital so don't run out of film. They catch people who speed through
green lights as well as those that jump red lights.

In the weeks since they have been live hundreds have been caught but none have been prosecuted at
the moment. Watch the press anouncement on it shortly.

You may also notice new Gatso traffic cameras which are on tall poles. These are also digital. 24 of them
are being installed across Gwent, Dyfed Powys and South Wales Police areas.

They don't need film. The offences travle down wires to the Central Ticket Office where fines are sent out!

Don't say you didn't know. You have been warned!  Shocked

I absolutely detest speed cameras. Ones at traffic lights to detect a 'jumper' are not so bad.

They're just cash cows and no evidence they prevent accidents.....but there is an argument they can cause
them with people jamming on their brakes on seeing a camera!!!

There's a PC on a motorcycle I used to work with that parks his bike and sets up a gun camera to detect
speeders travelling out of my village! I can't be bothered to even stop and speak to him. He does it
regularly, as well as at the bottom of Caerphilly Mountain, to catch people speeding up  the hill......
where there is no pavement or houses??  Cry

One tip is to send a cheque with an overpayment. They seem to have trouble processing it apparently!  Wink

thx for that info Bob, much appreciated.

I also warn those coming up this way, that although the fixed speed cameras are switched off in the county, there are a lot more plain clothes vehicles doing speed checks as well as the usual vans.

the A4500 going into Northampton is notorious -- it was a 70 speed limit, but is now a 40 .... over 70% of those attending the local speed  courses have been caught on this road ... [btw course costs £90 .. a 50% increase on last years price!]

needless to say, people have cottoned on and aren't going into northampton to shop, and the traders are wondering why!
