A day without sunshine is like, you know, night.

« on: May 27, 2014, 10:06:20 AM »

hi peeps

thinking of trying some rivers and estuaries do u think i should stick to beach settings for my machine or do i need to vary the settings,
i suppose the estuary would be the same as the beach with the salt content but its the rivers i,m a little dubious over.

a little bit of reassurance would be much appreciated.

thanks

Have no idea on settings Jim but I do know Estuaries are dangerous.  Be careful. Wink

Jim the beauty of the Sovs is that there is no real difference in settings from wet beach to dry land other than possibly the sensitivity so if it falses turn it down if it doesn't turn it up until it does then back it off Wink

Well the "beach" is only a guide on the sensitivity knob nothing else if you can get it higher on the beach then do so, inland I would still only use manual sensitivity at the position it's comfortable to search with, I always leave Disc and Notch on zero and never move them Wink

as Geoff has said run it as if inland , my gt is set the same for both the sensitivity is the only thing I alter if things get a bit chirpy on the sand ( or inland ) , set in auto sense you will loose some depth but not a huge amount but it could be enough to miss the smaller deeper items so run it in manual and you wont go wrong , good luck out there mate

hi Jim, remember to clean the coil cover out, bits of rubbish, don't help the sensitivity, I've sealed mine with sealer, and watch you don't drop it, I might still have a waterproof box hear, if not you can make one with a tupawear box, not sure if I have spelt it right, mark might still have one I made him, give him a buzz.

Dale they are identical in performance the newer GT went back in operation to the original, Minelab are infamous for adding a switch, give it a respray and there you go the new model you must have, they did it 5 times on the Sov and 4 on the Explorer Grin

I love my gt but have never used any other model , badger swears by his elite , spikey went from an elite to a gt then back to an elite although he might have had a dud gt , I think its a case of what suits you , if your happy with the returns don't worry ( and that goes for any machine ) . if it aint broke don't fix it  Wink

I got to be honest I go out all the time with two mates they both have sov gt machine n mine is the elite I don't notice any difference between them except I don't have got to keep ground balancing mine thank god because we quite often walk over to each other for a chat n a snoop to see wot one has got n u have to balance it each time u turn it off Which I think is a god send that I don't have to do plus my elite is called suzzy and I love her Grin
