I thought letting it dry out by a radiator for a couple of days before switching it on may be ok what do you think? Huh

Well make sure the battery is out of it as that's what causes damage, spin the battery compartment lid around so it allows an air flow, if it has covers take them off, disconnect the coil and remove the stem and stick the whole thing in an airing cupboard for a day or two Wink

In your case it's probably a leak from your head so I'd probably put a tight tourniquet around your neck, that should sort it out Grin

I have had water in SE and also E trac. I took the screws out of the control box and lifted the top and then used a hair dryer to dry it out.
I then stopped any more water getting in by covering every joint, including the battery box, with black insulating tape.

Before I bought a screen cover my detector got wet in the rain, I left it to dry in the house but
forgot to remove battery, it kept switching itself on and off as it was drying, I switched it on the next day , it worked  fine but my saved programs had been deleted. As Geoff said, remove your battery as soon as you can.

A point that was made recently on another forum, was the detector stem is hollow and water can travel inside that stem when you
lay the detector down for storage and so on. We all use covers for the control housing, because very few joints are waterproof
but there's nothing to stop the water inside the stem from getting at the same type of jointing, where the box attaches to that stem.

Just a thought as to how these control boxes can get water inside, despite having covers.

It's not water that causes the damage, it's the residues left behind when the water evaporates!

Perhaps stand it up when not in use water will only run to the coil then. Obviously in a dry place helps.

Point I was trying to make Bob. Even if we cover the control box and take the time to wipe excess water of the machine at the end of the day,
there will still probably be small amounts of H2O within the stem which as you rightly say will give off water vapour as it evaporates.
Or if you've been searching in very wet area's, actual water running within the stem. Something to keep in mind when storing the machine.
