Evening all i just bought a sovereign gt and have only managed a few hours on the beach using these settings:

all metal mode
pin point
threshold on not silent search
volume at 3 o'clock
sens just out of auto on full
threshold about 10 or 11 o'clock

it seems ok in these settings but quite noisy, to get the threshold hum just audible the knob would have to be lower than the 10 o'clock mark is this right? tried turning the sensitivity down but still noisy and its the same in disc mode with iron mask on.
im using the settings this way because most of what ive read says these are best settings for depth.
this is my first minelab so its going to take some getting used to.

i use mine in       1 all metal mode/pinpoint.
2 full volume (got earphones with volume control).
                           3 no discrim.
                           4 no threshold,
                           5 no notch.
                           6 sensitivity flat out.
this is refered to by american users as p.i mode cos its almost as good as a pulse induction machine when used like this.takes a bit of getting used to ,just go slow an low,
 hope this helps ,good luck

ok cheers so when you say no threshold do you mean the switch on silent search or the threshold knob on 0?

If you run with no threshold you WILL miss deep targets, I guarantee it.
If you have just started using it then try;
Volume on maximum (the volume is an audio gain for the deep or small targets)
Sensitivity at 11,o'clock ( the sov's will go deep even on min sens)
Variable tones
notch off
Disc, just on

I have had sovereigns for years, starting with the Sovereign, then XS, then XS2 PRO, and XS2A, my last one was the Elite and now the GT for the last few weeks. It just seems to be unstable with to much false signals Huh so I have just ordered another Elite from Mike Longfields should be here Tuesday and I cant wait to get back to me old faithful, Grin for me it just wasn't worth it, that said would it be good to here if you get to grips with yours stickygreen, Smiley if you do stick a 15" WOT coil on the end of it, it wont get much better for the Beach mate ;)Deep, Deep, Deep.
