Title: Scan Club Rally Report 2nd October Post by: The Doc on October 03, 2011, 09:45:39 PM Thanks to Ken and Gwil for getting this rally organised at short notice.
Sorry, no pictures of finds - I saw a few of the finds but didn't have my camera with me at the time. We had a great day out anyway, and with our guests fron RARE, about forty people attended. It was hot work, but a number of people were rewarded with decent finds. Jeff Powell, on his first day out with his new Deus, did well. He had an Elizabeth I halfgroat and a very nice George V florin. A RARE member, I believe named Mick or Mike, had three hammered, which I didn't see but was told they were all Charles I, two sixpences and a penny. Brian Mitchell from RARE had a very nice milled silver - a halfcrown of William IV dated 1836. I also heard of an Elizabeth I sixpence. Late in the day I saw a couple of nice finds for those that persevered. Byron had a lovely enamelled heraldic mount, and John Handleigh a Durham mint penny of Henry V. My own finds were disappointing - two cartwheel pennies, a later George III halfpenny, Victoria halfpenny, Edward VII penny, a bag seal, a couple of broken buckles, a musket ball, several plain buttons and a small belt mount.
