Title: Wanted
Post by: Dryland on March 07, 2015, 07:11:08 PM
I'm considering  joining the fairy stick brigade, and i'm thinking of going for the full  Deus set up, but before I take the plunge and
buy a new one , has anyone got one they're looking to sell. I'm looking for one no older than 2 years old and preferably with the
WS5 headphones.

It'll drive you mad Dylan.  The more I read about it the more confused I get.  If I thought John wouldn't throw me out I offer you mine. :o ::)

Being a Man (I think) he's well into his techno. and thinks it's a wonderful piece of equipment.  Maybe I should send him out to do some detecting with it. ;D

After watching Garys Deus videos posted on here a few weeks ago, I decided to join the fairy stick brigade, I bought the full version, there are so many preset programs, to choose from, having watched Garys videos for several hours, the Deus does not seem so daunting to tweek etc, that said iv'e not tried it yet, so lookout Andy I will probably be following you around on the next rally lol, Dylan Iv'e got the back phones with my Deus, ( there very good), you can buy Chefs Deus phones, and save yourself a lot of money,  ....

Poor Andy he's going to have both of us hanging from around his neck, With The Museum. co.uk theres only a £10 difference between WS4 AND WS5 at the moment. The 9 inch coil handset and WS5 - £1,109

dont forget ken you can play around with any setting in 1-10 and as long as you dont save them when you knock it off it will all be as factory settings again so you can play to your hearts content in the safety of knowing you cant damage or ruin your settings

Lol it will be a pleasure to show you all I know guys... That should take me all of 5 minutes lol...

Personally I prefer lightweight headphones and the standard ones from xp are fine for me, you can always upgrade later if you don't like them but they are pretty dam good really and only around £20 to replace (controller excluded of course) I haven't seen the ws5 in the flesh yet so if you prefer the larger sort of headset and there's not much price difference then I guess you could go with those and add a spare set of lightweights for another 20 quid... Just check that the controller part of the WS 5 is the same and removable from the head set so they can fit the standard fitting on the lightweights or chefs phones.

Look forward to seeing the shiney new machines on a rally soon ;)

Go on Dylan, come aboard you only live once mate, there are some very good programs you can chose from and adapt if needed to suit ;) I use Adam/ Lisas programs,  ;)

I don't doubt it's a good machine. It certainly doesn't miss much   BUT  how can I blank out all the iron signals.  I always used to use All Metal on the Safari but the tones were easy to listen to. On the Deus the tones are high and not all are in the 90's.   They're driving me crackers.

Im also new to the Deus and having same problem with iron. It gives such a good signal.
Apart from that Im happy with it as 4th time out with it on Friday I found a hammered. :)

My advice to you while you are learning the Deus is to use the gmp program and raise the disc to around 35 the iron tones will then be on all vdi numbers up to 35  you won't miss much worth having below 35 in my experience. If you are in a Roman site or looking for smaller/thinner stuff you can lower the disc, but 35 to 40 is good to learn the machine. If you don't like the iron sound you can lower the iron volume setting, but I would leave it as it is as you will identify the busy areas of your site if you can hear the iron.  Don't forget to look at the horse shoe for another clue for the iron...

Yea right, so why does iron come into the conductive side of the horse shoe with a dig me tone ??

Big iron is a problem for all machines in my experience Val, I expect it flicks into the left side of the horseshoe as well though. Run the disc right and listen for ANY slight rasp of e iron tone. Someone posted a link on here for some very good videos to learn the Deus a few weeks back, well worth watching. It'll take 6 months to get used to it val it took that long for me to really learn the explorer as well. Stick with it, it's a good machine. There are lots of settings to play with and I don't have a clue on lots of them, I think it's better to set it up and learn it only making minor changes rather than continually change things, otherwise I'd run out of detecting time lol :D

What I ve found is that if youve got a good signal, little wiggles of the coil and draw it backwards over the target......if it gives a little grunt as you come of the target its iron  ;)

oh yes there's so many ways you can tell the differencewiggle wiggle wiggle

I found that works sometimes but not all the time. I get good signals in 80s or 90s showing on right of horseshoe. When I dig them it is sometimes non ferrous object but quite often iron.
I am using gmp mode and only adjustment I do is raise the sensitivity up a bit if the ground allows.
In 20 years of detecting using a lot of different detectors I have found the Deus the worst for giving a good signal on iron.
And also, the way I am using the Deus, It is definitely not as sensitive as an e trac. Although it does seem to be deeper on ploughed.
But its early days for me yet. Only used it 4 times so far. (but did find a hammered with it).
