Title: Behind the Skirting Boards
Post by: 150aceboy on January 07, 2010, 09:32:02 PM
Doing a bit of diy just before Christmas, decided to change the skirting boards.

Pulled the first board off the wall, brushing up the mess and found this item, which at first site, being black with dust thought it was a coin.

On Front it Says - Edward VIII King & Emperor

It reads on reverse -  To Commemorate The Coronation of King Edward VIII 1937

Around edge it says - Struck by The makers of Rowntrees Cocoa Jellies & GVMS

Anybody have any ideas  ???

Ace  ;)

It's "what it says on the tin" Ace. An Edward VIII coronation commemorative issued by Rowntree. Of course, the coronation never happened due to his abdication, but lots of souvenirs had already ben produced.

Thanks Peter for I.D. mate, and thanks guys, unusual for it to be there as the house was only built in 1952, and there was no gap in skirting, so how it ended up there goodness knows  ???

I had a similar experience when I ripped out a fireplace at my previous house and found an old copy of the Daily Mirror.
The date was the 12th of September 1985 and the date on the newspaper was the 12th September 1935 EXACTLY 50yrs to the day.spooky eh ?  :o :o
