It's not playing silly beggars legio, It's the government playing silly beggars with our coinage ;D
All of the 1p and 2p pieces minted since the 1992 have an iron core so the garrett is doing what it should.

It's OK legio a lot of people still don't realise that 1's and 2's are more iron than copper, if you have a load of them you can tell which is which by using a magnet. And it's worth noting that the older copper ones are now worth 3.26p in scrap value.

This brings up an interesting point. I always thought that the detector would "see" and respond to the outside of the coin which is copper plated(?). It obviously, detects through the target rather than the surface. If that is the case, are we also discriminating out other plated targets?  ???

Yes if it has an iron core

Hi,

I believe they are copper plated steel!

Hmm I might take my old pennies to the scrappy then, I've got about 2kg of them ;D

Last time I checked copper was £5.50 a kilo.
Ta for the inside info chef. Had no idea recent coppers had an iron/steel core.

My Deus just loves modern 1p and 2p coins.

I suppose that's a good thing..........

I suspect a coin before I dig but they give a good audio and VDI reading in the 90's.

Even if they are plated I think I'd rather the Deus signalled than ignored them. I don't mind digging
iron ocassionally especially when it's circular. If I'm in doubt I dig.
