I seriously doubt it would be allowed - and certainly not at Ephesus! Grin Which you must visit by the way!

I would check with the Tourism Department at their Embassy over here if I was you. Try and get it in writing off them as well. I know Greece is a definate no. I put an article up a few months back about a guy detecting a Greek beach who got banged up briefly for it.

I'll be interested in hearing the answer to this.

Does anyone know about Portugal for that matter as I am going to visit a friend there soon?

It's pretty safe to say that outside the English speaking world it is banned to some degree (also Ireland), We honestly forget how lucky we are here to be able to detect.

i wouldnt want to pee them off, they can be very strict.my mrs uncle has a place there and when he noticed you could buy guns there he jokingly asked a police man if he could shoot burglars and the policeman said it was o.k to shoot a burglar from the waist down,he also was told that the police would then give him a bit of time to talk to to the burglar ( give him a kicking ) before they turned up.ooh .dont like the sound of them police ,i've seen midnight express  Shocked

and the detectorists came two by two in all shapes and sizes from all over the earth to detect in their camoflauge clothing and surely it was a site to behold.  Shocked Shocked

The simple answer is don't detect anywhere in Turkey or Greece.

It appears the locals can get away on the beach with it but tourists will get arrested and their machine confiscated, and a fine!
