Anyone who uses a Minelab Explorer or E-track will know how heavy they are and after a couple of hours detecting can take its toll on the arms and back,there are devices on the market to help the poor detectorist overcome the weight problem but they don't come cheap. Well I've got a couple of cheap alternatives to the branded expensive systems on the market. AS you will see from the pix, I have made a comfortable arm rest from an old coat sleeve that helps to take the weight off the arm, all you have to do to make it fit onto your detector is to remove the sleeve from the coat at just above the elbow, and then stitch the end of the sleeve back together, then you cut a slit in the sleeve about six inches long and again stitch the edges of the slit back up.You now undo the screw that holds the arm rest to the stem of the detector and remove the plastic rest,now fit the plastic arm rest into the sleeve with the slit at the bottom or underneath the screw hole. Then you line up the arm rest and sleeve with the hole in the stem and screw the arm rest back in place, if you have a Protector cover on the stem it may be a bit fiddily to line up the screw with the hole as the screw is quit short but it will fit. (http://) To help take the weight off the back I didn't go out and buy the new Minelab detecting harness for £110 I went to Aldi and bourght a rucksack for about £17 bargin.I found a bungy cord and conected one end to the rucksack and one end to the detector. My arm used to ache after about a hour before I fitted my gagets now I can swing my detector all day with no aches or pains, and it goes to show that you do not have to spend a fortune to make your detecting life easier. (http://) Title: Re: Cheap way to take the strain Post by: legio11augustus on February 20, 2014, 04:16:39 PM nice one john , i use a strimmer/brushcutter harness,on flea bay for as little as £4,and attatch a bungee to it ...like you i used to get a few aches and pains after an hour ...but not with the harness although it feels like i have played in the welsh pack the next day ;D

Title: Re: Cheap way to take the strain Post by: jcb (THE THIMBLE) jones on February 20, 2014, 04:56:34 PM i made one very similar out of a shoulder strap from a sports holdall and a climbing clip that my son had and a bungee strap from the pound shop , all in all this cost me a pound but i suppose if you had to buy all the bits it would still cost around 8-10 pounds tops , also the clip thing on my bungee fits the two of my detector stems perfect and its like swinging fresh air around ,not the prettiest about but it does the job
