Title: WWI Victory Medal
Post by: BottyBurp (Kris) on September 13, 2009, 07:03:28 PM
I found this WWI Victory Medal this afternoon.

Made of Bronze and this is the best I can clean it unless anyone can advise me please.

The obverse says "The Great War For Civilisation 1914 to 1918"

Interestingly the Victory Medal was one of a pair known as Mutton & Jeff, the one I have is Jeff!

Thanks for looking.

Burp

i think that the name rank and serial number were engraved or stamped on the rim of the medal. is it still visible? if so you could trace the original owner mate ;)

Thanks guys, can anyone suggest a gentle way to clean the rim please as I would really like to trace the relatives but it's just a little to unreadable  :'(

Nice find Kris, you could try soaking it in  citric acid diluted with boiling water, that will clean it up well.

nice find kris. its a shame that someone had to go through unimaginable horrors and incredible hardships to receive a medal for it only to be lost. good luck on trying to trace the soldier who won it. would make a great story for the searcher or treasure hunter, or better still this site.
