one hour in my field before picking son up from school, found this hammy about 3 meters away from the henry iii hammy i found broken last week. I think it might be charles 1st Huh
Also found the horsey thing i thought maybe a horsebrass at first but its a little small and they dont usually have horses on them Huh
also found various coins dating from 1921 (sixpence) up to 1980s 50p ect

I do really like the horse brass, a nice piece of social history.

From the data base below, same?

"The ’hanging brass’ is a type of harness decoration that was used on draught horses, more often when they were entered in shows and competitions than when they were actually working. They were mainly produced between 1860 and 1914, but were also reproduced later.

Object Type:    Horse brass

Period:    Modern

Date Range:    Circa late 19th to early 20th century

Primary Material:    Brass

Method of Manufacture:    Cast

Size (mm):    50mm x 40mm"

lol carling you were right.i think its a half groat actually the mint mark is a triangle i think its 1639 - 1640 , i might be wrong on that tho.
im going back out this evening after i put on something to stop the horseflies biting me.
i think the field must have seen a huge amount of activity over the years there are so many signals in it .iv had a huge amount of gold coloured ring pulls out of the field tho  Tongue

There's a big difference in the dates on those two coins, always a good sign. The site must have had people on it for many years. Keep plugging away at it and I'm sure you will get more interesting finds. Well done.

yes dungbeetle nearly 400 years between the 2 coins !! the field is about an acre it is one of the first fields on the outskirts of a town (that dates back to 10th century )and at the bottom of the field is the river which seperates the field from the 11th century castle .
i think the field may very well have been used for village fetes and people fishing .The field is full of signals and no iron and thanks to the river the ground is soft so its a fun site to detect.

Sounds good but don't give too many clues or you will end up with people asking for permission on it and you can do without competition !
