Nice Brooch Webber,as you say a Trumpet so nice and early, unusual as the head does appear to have eyes in the moulding, looks similar to 949 in Brooches Of Antiquity (Richard Hattatt) well done mate ;)Title: Re: Roman broach id Post by: Chef Geoff on October 25, 2014, 06:39:21 PM Very nice find, any chance of a photograph of the back? ;)

Title: Re: Roman broach id Post by: Chef Geoff on October 25, 2014, 08:05:57 PM Oh it's definitely a Trumpet brooch and so as Paul says early 80-140AD but as to a type I'm a bit stumped ??? The majority of TB have a pedestal foot whereas yours is obviously a ball foot and quite a whopper at that the decoration is very similar to a group centred around Wroxeter which tend to only be found along the Welsh boarders with a few in Wales, so my guess, and that's all it is, is that this is from the same group but from an unknown workshop ;)
