Title: Roman broach id

Hi folks went out for a couple of hours today and came across this beauty anyone have any ideas on the type I think it's a trumpet broach but not sure on the front of it there seem to be two eyes .this is a first for me I usually come across the polden type .

Nice Brooch Webber,as you say a Trumpet so nice and early, unusual as the head does appear to have eyes in the moulding, looks similar to 949 in Brooches Of Antiquity (Richard Hattatt) well done mate ;)

looks like a trumpet brooch to me and its beaut mate  ;)

Oh it's definitely a Trumpet brooch and so as Paul says early 80-140AD but as to a type I'm a bit stumped ??? The majority of TB have a pedestal foot whereas yours is obviously a ball foot and quite a whopper at that the decoration is very similar to a group centred around Wroxeter which tend to only be found along the Welsh boarders with a few in Wales, so my guess, and that's all it is, is that this is from the same group but from an unknown workshop ;)

Thanks guys great ids and info as always I will try and find some more tomorrow I'm going on some new pasture tomorrow see if my new etrac will find some more goodies .

Nice Brooch, looks very similar to the one I found on Rally 59 in Hereford
