Title: Celtic Yesterday
Post by: celticspikey on October 18, 2014, 09:34:37 AM
I decided to give the medieval field a rest yesterday, and headed a few miles away to an early roman site. This field is currently cultivated and to be left until spring the rain has weathered the ground down quite a bit so detecting is pretty good. My last couple of visits to this field had not revealed much however this is the result of 4 hours search; believe it or not I only dug a dozen or so signals and the first of which was the Silver Durotrigian unit (geometric type)  it came out just below a badger set probably disturbed by them? So long may the badgers dig here, the bronze stater came out a good depth which the trusty Deus had no problem locating. You will see the pottery has a bit of samian and some Iron Age coarse pot :)

Hi David the Deus has no problems knocking them out mate, some of the minuscule scrap bronze and lead amazes me still! obviously your not going to knock them out at great depth but then no machine would, I've had most of the minelab range over the years and my experience is the Deus has the edge ;) as I said it is my experience others mite disagree  ::) ;)

hi , yes i too have the explorer se with 15" wot  which is pretty good on hammered,  but need something lighter for the pasture and stubble so was thinking the Deus with 11" coil and keep the explorer for beach work , just wanted someone who has a Deus and finds hammered s opinion on small hammereds

Well, if that's all you need Paul, I've got some as well , from the same Emerald Isle.. My Great Grand Father was from somewhere over there.

Do you use the control box on the Deus. I've been thinking about one for a while now but can't justify the cost. Like I said to John. The price of one of them would cover a new cooker (which I've just had) a washing machine and a fridge freezer. Maybe if I don't have the fridge freezer it could nearly pay for a Deus light. ::)

Great finds Paul ;) Your having a great season lets hope it continues.

My mate has a site like yours, very few signals then out pops a silver unit, its
well worth putting the hours in when you know there're there. ;)

Va
Follow the leprechauns Val, and get a Deus go on, go on ,go on ,go on  :) even if you don't find much you'll have a great craic ;)
I do use the control box as well I have got use to it it does give you more information bus as you know if you get a good signal you dig any way despite visual readings. Get the Deus and hope for a harsh winter then you could put the freezer stuff outside any way ;D...simples ;)

Your not wrong Dale, I had a cracking  Gold Dobunic Stater of Comux  some years back so as you can imagine the field is always worth putting the time in mate. ;) Its  not my most productive site but as you say up pops something special from time to time.
