the buckle is a brass  horse harness one, 1800s into the  mid 1900s.

a lovely find, well done indeed. make sure you have either a 10 figure grid reference of the find spot, or go onto google earth, locate the find spot and record the eastings and northings.

This makes your FLO's recording of the artefact much easier.

record it with the FLO, its so important.

cheers

Hi Alan,

No worries, I plan to bring it to the next CSC meetiong so Mark can check it out and record it. I would like to see if he can date it for me too if thats possible.

I use GPS when I am scanning so I can mark where I make finds, and I have an aerial photograph of the field with the find spot marked.

Cheers old mate

Eric

That's excellent practice Eric. All detecting newbies should follow this practice, as its a very important part of our hobby.

the digging it up bit is easy, it's the importance of recording the artefact that makes the bigger picture well worth while.

Hopefully meet you on a rally someday.

cheers

And another brooch and my first hammered, John or early Henry III, approx AD 1208- 1215, along with some bronze horse fittings to add to his list.

I will have to buy him a pint of squash at this rate.

Eric
