Some of my best finds have come from the sub soil while using the EXII but when I took them to be recorded the archeologist was not to happy with me retrieving items from the sub soil or hard pack.

Archaeologists are never happy mate. My FLO has had a couple of hundred flints from One field for the best part of two years. Doubt I will ever see them again and Having been in the trade (as they say) for a while you will be amazed at some of the private collections of some of the holier than thou Professionals. Afraid all is not black and white and the detectorist will always be the villian. Just ask them about farmers and potato planting and subsoilers and they look the other way, even though these do far more damage than we will ever do.
