Have been wondering over a period of time having seen many posts regarding the depth capabilties of the machines, What is the deepest measured depth that you have found a target at and what are the types of finds that you are making at these depths?
Most of the finds that I make are within the first 5 inches unless it is something larger than a 10p piece, I just wonder is it worth having a minelab to use on a worked site.
When you go down deeper does the discrim still sort out the good from the bad?

I dont know about the Explorer but I have been using my new Safari and am finding very small metal objects at impressive depth! I found this very small heart pendent at 10 inches! I will have to add that the soil here in my area is quite mineral free So I guess that would make a detector work better. I am still new working with the Minelab so I will have to admit I dig lots of trash! I guess you should dig everything to learn to use the machine better. The target ID on this heart showed up as jewelry/foil on the TID.

I have definately passed 14 inches on numerous occasions with the Explorer II. The majority of my finds though seem to come out at at about 5-10 inches. Its easy to work out in the field - just get a permanent marker pen and mark your spade at inch intervals - job done. Wink

OK I guess As you may know and I found out it takes a lot of hours to learn a Minelab detector! I haven't had near enough hours on the machine myself yet. I have only used it about 10 hours total so far. I hear you dont get good at using it until about 100 hours so I got a long time to go. It does get a little heavy after a while but I got one of those harness things to help me out when on a long hunt. I have found a lot of nails! LOL

Braggarts  Grin What are you finding at 14" plus? Anything worth finding at that depth that isn't a big horseshoe etc;

Good link Yankee! Looks like there is no point in having any other machine then, other than the e-trac. SE or GPX 4500, the II didn't really perform in the test  Cheesy

Steve have you considered the XP Goldmaxx Power? According to the Detectortest it out-performs Minelab machines and it's a lot lighter and cheaper.
