i found this little beauty a couple of weeks ago. It's 2 inches across the top and 3 inches from top to bottom.

i've never seen anything like this before.

I'm interested in how it would have been used. It does look like a mount, but i'm thinking it was probably from inside a building. There is a saxon church close by, and a manor house even closer, it may be linked with either.

I'm open to suggestions.

I had a medieval sheep's wool weight with a  crest in middle and same shape..Rob

It's always a good idea to try and work out what your lead items are - a few weeks back I dug up a lump of lead with some bronze set into it and it turns out to be a 9th century Viking weight - and apparently unique to South Wales........I'm sure that others have probably been found and discarded over the years...
