Grandma trying to help grand-daughter out

Hello all..My grand-daughter had a metal detector as a gift and now we want to try it out for the first time.   Can anyone suggest somewhere safe for a 10 year old, somewhere legal obviously and pretty local to the Newport South Wales area to start off what she hopes will be a good interesting hobby?

u could try your nearest beach maybe...your Grand-daughter can search the drysands for some pocket money !!  Goodluck

going to give it a go at the beach and just have fun detecting..first go out so will be fun just looking ..and you never know what you might find..but a day out doing something fun together is also the aim and listening to everyone here I think we might have found it.
