Title: How Deep is yours? Post by: Tafflaff (Rob) on December 16, 2009, 06:13:35 PM There a heck of a lot of talk about machine depth on lets face it all forums. What I'd be interested to know would be :-
What is the deepest you've found a small silver coin (lets say a sixpence or smallish hammered) What machine and coil was it on. I wont include coppers in this as obviously some of the bigger pennies can be got a lot deeper. Title: Re: How Deep is yours? Title: Re: How Deep is yours? Post by: Tafflaff (Rob) on December 16, 2009, 06:42:31 PM I'm hoping thats not the case paul/lisa and thats certainly not what I'm aiming to do. Just an honest levelled answer to a subject that I think a lot of 'myth' is attached to. Mine would probably be around 6 inches for a small lizzy i 2 penny (half groat) obiously the bigger the hammered the deeper they're detectable.
Whites DFX on the stock coil at the time. Title: Re: How Deep is yours? Post by: Tinman (paul/Lisa) on December 16, 2009, 06:54:29 PM I know that Rob wernt having a pop, just cant see everyone being totally honest lol. 6" I would say is about right for most machines.
Where it could differ is in experianced users versus inexperianced. I watched one guy two weeks ago with an e trac swinging it like a sythe about a foot off the ground and doing the quick march. I dont think theres much difference in depth between the top machines these days . Title: Re: How Deep is yours? Post by: Chef Geoff on December 16, 2009, 07:18:20 PM Weird I have just put up a post on the XP Deus thread that would probably be more at home here, but to answer your question.
My deepest clear signal was, like Willow Tree, with a Sovereign fitted with a 12x15 SEF on the beach. it was a 1921 sixpence at roughly 9 inches. I have had a few hammerd pennys' at 8 inches with the Etrac. |
