went out with Melonhead yesterday nr abergavenny on a new field we had permission to detect on very hilly field and did not help with my bad foot  Grin, the first 2 hours Melonhead was getting a few nice buttons and a few copper coins he also found a nice silver brooch type thing very nice to, myself nothing but modern junk Cry meet up for a chat at the top of the hill with Melonhead and said to him lets go to another field we been to before as i was not finding nothing as then mark showed the buttons and coins he found and then said lets go and have a break glad of the break as well as my foot was aching a bit . Melonhead did say while having the break "why don't you try the banking we were having our cuppa on " so after resting my foot and a nice cup of coffee Mark went off on his way and i stayed on the banking and withing 10 minutes dug up the roman brooch with the spring attachment still intact. mark came over and was pleased of the find i made withing 5 minates mark came over to me hands shaking with gold in his hand we think the coin was George 3rd or George 4th we could just make out a date of 182! has the gold was battered to bits and very worn, such a pity it was in a state as it was but gold is gold . i did find a nice buckle later on we called it a day and a good day to as for the first two hours i was ready to move on glad i stayed now: Wink

The fibula is lovely Kev - very distinctive with those "nobbly bits" and to have the spring is a bonus!

Any chance on a close up of "the goldie"?

Mark is truely having a "Stellar" detecting year what with Lizzy milled sixpence, gold posy ring and now a gold coin. Well done to you Mark - well deserved mate.

Cheers

The roman brooch looks silvered. Nice find. Especially with the spring mechanism intact. Dead jealous mate.

Well done.

Lovelly finds Kev. As far as I can see the brooch is Bham 1909. Is the makers name on the other half?
Nice idea giving the remains of the gold coin to the Farmer.
