howdoo peeps ,i went out again early this morning with the intension of just getting as many fishing weights as possible for my lead collection,been detecting for 6 hrs so i was fecked,turned around to go back up the beach to my car and i got a lovely signal,its another ring,looks gold but no hallmarks,could be brass ? i dont know.i am going to get a gold testing kit this weekend.have a look and see what you think. :o

Looks a bit like brass to me Mike.  Didn't know you collect fishing weights - will keep them for you from now on instead of giving them away to the fishermen.   :)

i collect them for the scrap value teen i'm a bit of a gypsy on the side lol.at first i thought it was a brass olive then i saw where it had been soldered at the back

The ring looks crappo to me sorry pet - you'll need a lot of lead to get some decent dosh out of it though  ???

dont care its still a ring  :P lol.they all count in my book.we sold one this morning for £75.00.nice but need more lol .i have become obsesed

Lead scrap is £1000 a ton at the moment, thats basically two crisp boxes full. You would be surprised Tyna at just how quick it builds up.
Just for a heads up Copper alloy is currently £2600 a ton.

Mike have you got an old wall tile knocking about the place? if so rub the ring against the back of it, if it's gold it will leave a gold streak, copper alloy won't.

the last time i weighed in lead in i think it was 60p a kilo.i have got a lot of weights.get more tonight to bulk my collection up lol

Had bucketfuls of the stuff in the garage at my last house but threw them all in the bin when moving as no room to house in the new place.  Had I'd known then that Mike was cashing them in then he would have been welcome to them all.

simple answer is in density weight brass is very light whereas gold will always feel heavy for its size
