The antiquarians were the forerunners of todays archeologists and in1800s were collecting infornation & artefacts.
They were also logging this information on maps,diarys and journals. The antiquarian maps in my  local musuem
record the sites of two bronze age hoards and two sites where gold rings (Viking) were found. A few years ago  I
Located a hand written antiquarian journal dated 1880 and Inside was a reference to a hoard found 1857 when a
hedge was been taken down. A friend followed up the information and found  6/7 medievial groats & half groats the
spillage from the original hoard. To gather this information will involve alot of foot work.

On a wet and horrible day i usually do the same and search the Radnorshire Society and Woolhope Club journals. They are full of otherwise unrecorded info with great leads to some interesting sites. Just have to get the landowners on - side then. Cheesy
