Title: Gold Gilded Pommel ??
Post by: LUCKY on June 05, 2012, 08:27:15 AM
After finding this object, which i believe could be some sort of pommel. Its smallish so for a dagger or knife certainly not a sword or something of similar size. Could be described as crescent shaped which is a known pommel shape. Would like to hear your thoughts on what YOU think the aretefact is or could be----found in Scotland.

My thoughts are that it's more firearm than edged weapon ??? A pommel by design fits on top of the handle, whereas the fittings on your object would fit on the side and thus not a "pommel". But......stock furniture from a musket or pistol it could be. Intriguing ???

I agree with Chef Geoff, it is def not from a Sword as the fixing for this is usually on spike and is symmetrical in origin. Nice find though  ;)
