Title: Bone...
Post by: jtalbot0001 on August 11, 2012, 10:22:40 PM
Hi guys and gals, this is not the kind of find many of us would like to find, but I am sure many of us have stumbled across bone finds, most of them being animal no doubt. Well the pictures here are of a bone fragment that was found today in a veg garden, not by me, and I must say it has kind of freaked me out, as it is a large piece, sorry about no scale but a rough guide is at least 15cm+ x 8cm+, and my first thoughts are human, but then I have no idea? What do you think, any expert out there. And if its human, well then I would have to contact the FLO at least surely?

I am not an expert so unable to offer an opinion as to whether it is animal or human bone, However, if you find a human body, even if it appears to be ancient the police are supposed to be informed. I suppose the same applies to a human bone. If you informed the flo they would probably contact the police as a matter of routine.

Yes I'm afraid it has nothing at all to do with an FLO and the police would be the people to contact but why do you even think human, rather than cow for instance?

LOL, cause its like 20m from the church wall Chef, you know the Veg Garden from Court House, So the chances are that much greater, but Cow is good LOL.

Ahhhhhhh! well when they found the villa they also found the remains of a charnel house there on top of it, so yes probably human but until about 1992 when they changed the earth in all the flower beds in the church yard, you could pick up teeth and finger bones all over the place...and my 4 year old daughter did exactly that and then to my horror opened her tiny little hand to show Derek the vicar. And of course who had told her what they were..yep muggins here lol

But no real need to report it as it's not really much of a find, a bit like finding a balloon in a balloon factory  ;)

In case you are still anxious, I can reassure you this is not a human bone.

It's a metacarpal or metatarsal of a cow.

Just want to say say thanks to all comments, and to Geoff and the Doc for letting me know it isn't human! I do appreciate it, as does the Land Lady who found it in her garden!

Good job your LandLady doesn't live in Narberth.

About 3 years ago a friend of ours, a Mr.Bellamy, who lives right by the Castle, deceided to get some help with tidying up his back garden. When cutting back the bushes and clearing some falling soil they found a SKULL. :o
Caused quite a stir. Turned out to be from under the Castle yard, just above his property.

Val
