Hi All
Could this possibly be the remains of a roman fibula brooch ? It was found in the same field as a roman silver coin.

Many thanks Richie sixpence  Wink

An interesting find but perhaps not a brooch. I thought, maybe a handle off something?  Undecided

NO Richie it isn't lol
Sorry but there are no breaks at the larger end where a fixing mechanism would need to be. I think Chris is probably nearer with a handle of some type....Sorry Undecided

Still an interesting find Rich, hang on to it, you never know, you'll see a pic on some website one day and see one.

Get back on that site if you can, looks very interesting, remember to listen for the faint signals on the AT Pro and dig them if they're clean.

As Hotmill says it could still be Roman but what is the metal? from the photograph the surface seems to be breaking down similar to pewter Huh

When I first saw this item, I thought that it looked familiar and a Roman oil lamp came to mind; many were made of pottery, with several small looped
handles for threading the strings that would hold the lamp aloft. I suppose that some lamps could have been made from bronze! Have you tried rubbing it; you may get three wishes?   Grin Grin Grin  Cheesy

Not even sure it's copper alloy? To my mind it's the top of a handle, similar to this
