Hello DW
I have been given the opportunity to purchase a Charles 1 half crown.
I have been told that it was found locally (north devon)in the 80s by a farmer who believes it was possibly minted in Combe Martin?
I have a small collection of Barnstaple mint coins and this would be a great addition to my collection as I live locally to both towns.
I have done a bit of research and found a interesting article on Combe Martin coins.
http://www.britnumsoc.org/publications/Digital%20BNJ/pdfs/1929_BNJ_20_14.pdf/
I am by no means experienced in coin identification however please note the plumes that extend to the outer ring and also the crown mint mark with pellets to both sides.
The coin is worn and it is hard to see all the detail but does look vey similar to the one in the picture?
The coin has not been registerd with FLO however I intend to do so upon purchase.
This could potentially be a very interesting coin and your help with identification would be very much appreciated and will help me when concidering the purchase.
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask!?
Many thanks
Jamie

Thanks Dale,I was getting excited....never mind!
Can you help me understand the article?
It says they the Combe Martin mint would have used the tower mint stamp and that the the plumes extended to the outer circle defines it as Combe Martin ???or am I just reading it wrong?
Your help is appreciated
Many thanks Jamie

Hi Jamie,

The one in your photo does not have the Shrewsbury plume behind the King, you can see the plume just behind the flying scarf on the obverse of the pic Peter posted Smiley If you look at the 3 Tower halfcrowns I posted you will see there's no plume Wink

I'm guessing the worn lump behind my king is his flying scarf then?

It's still nice to get an example with the plumes, tower mint or not, although that example is quite worn
