Out yesterday and the very first signal of the day was this beautiful halfgroat from Charles 1.

This is the 7th Charles 1st, or 2nd coin that i,ve found this year ... in the previous years of detecting i,d only found 1 other!.  And they are all from the same fields!! .. It's certainly added something to the local history as we would have made the assumption based on previous years knowledge that the field was predominantly georgian with just a few sporadic roman!   Now it seems theres quite a bit of movement across it in the 17th century!

enjoy

Another well done Al. Nice to have a productive area that gives a bigger picture than a single coin.
I find it fascinating to build a picture of the area from the finds, wether they are coins or pottery or flints. Makes me wonder, sometimes, how many generations have worked these fields before us.
Even doing Family History I used to think it would be fantastic if we could travel back in time and see exactly how they lived.

Lovely coin Smiley thanks for sharing.

I do wonder sometimes about what we find - I seem to go through phases where I find more of one type of coin than almost anything else.

I've been detecting 8 years or so now, and in the first seven I've only had one William III 6d - but I've had three this year (and two of those are in the last month), and that shilling. Has the soil moved, or is that, once you have found one, you know what it is like and so can home in on them?

The only coin I ever got used to the sound of was Edward pennies on the beach. I s'pose if you find enough of any coin you'll hone in on them. The trick is to find lots and I never have  Cry
