Been out today with my new (secondhand) Vista Smart and found my first gold can any one help with some ID Cheers Dave.

it could be a custom made ring, that has no hallmark, or it could be older that 1798, as it was required and made compulsory after that date, so its hard to tell really, but from your image i would say its quite old, looks hand crafted, would be nice to see the inside of the ring without a finger in it though Smiley

Acid testing is a surefire way to tell. It's hard to see the colour of the ring in the picture as different carats as a rule have slightly different colours. I have had rings similar to yours and they've been 15ct, but it will need testing. Your ring probably did have a hallmark but it's either worn away or more likely the ring has been made smaller at some stage.
