Title: Strange button object ID please Post by: charlieboy on October 30, 2011, 03:05:09 PM Hi All
Found this object whilst detecting a field today. It measures 3cm across and is very thin - a similar thickness to a 'hammy'. I initially thought it was some sort of coin but on closer inspection noticed the decorative pattern. Hope someone can shed some light Many thanks Charlie :) Title: Re: Strange button object ID please Post by: archie on October 30, 2011, 03:09:30 PM dandy button

I would say it was just your average 18th century copper button.Title: Re: Strange button object ID please Post by: Metalmickey on October 30, 2011, 04:08:53 PM [/quote] You aint lived then Geoff ;D there`s one on "Silversimon" that measures 2.7cm, that`s pretty close ! :P Title: Re: Strange button object ID please Post by: charlieboy on October 30, 2011, 04:57:38 PM Thanks for the info guys. Found a few objects today including more buttons, a musket ball and a couple of very worn coins. I could just about make out a picture on one of the coins. This is about the size of a 'modern' penny and the markings appear to be some sort of shield, with a crown on top - any ideas? Sorry about the picture but that is as clear as it gets.
Cheers Charlie Title: Re: Strange button object ID please Post by: Val Beechey on October 30, 2011, 10:31:51 PM Is it a shield or a harp ??? could be an Irish coin.

Could be a harp I guess. Maybe it's destined to join my ever increasing pile of unidentifiable 'worn out' coppers. ;D Thanks again Charlie Title: Re: Strange button object ID please Post by: Chef Geoff on October 31, 2011, 11:17:10 PM I think Val is spot on with her id. This is what it once looked like:-
