Title: Christmas Stocking Fillers
Post by: Debbie on November 17, 2009, 10:24:03 AM
Once we have bought the detector and spade, there are several other little 'additions' that are handy when out and about in the field:

Pocket magnifier - there are several cheap and cheerful on Amazon at the moment - just type 'Magnifier' into the search

Coin envelopes/ capsules etc - quite a large selection from Timeline Originals, also ebay

Gel hand warmer - essential for this time of year!  Also on Amazon

Fleece Neck Warmer - another essential for the winter.  Also on Amazon

These are just a few ideas - anyone got any more ??

Thermal boots Deb, I've just bought a crackin' pair from a local angling shop. :) :)

Excellent idea Richy - what are the soles like on them? It doesn't seem to take me very long to put the top edge of the spade through mine!  :D

The greatest detecting addition idea, I have ever seen on here is an empty tennis or squash raquet cover. Its perfect to slot your spade into and zip halfway up the stem - stops all the dirt going in your boot! I have done this since whoever first posted it - great idea! ;)

Good idea for a thread Deb

Cheers
Neil

Deb the boots are made from neoprene with a removeable thermal liner and are 100% waterproof, the soles are rubber and seem to be up to the job. I bought them from Gary Evans Angling in Newport but he does have a shop in Cardiff. Mine are made by "Korum" and cost £39.95. :) :)

Funny enough I do a similar thing Neil with an old guiter cover. those little spades fit inside perfect. No mess. Bit expensive as a stocking filler but a great idea is that microscope that fits on a usb, someone posted it on here the other day great idea. Debbie was it?

Hi Paul/Lisa
It was Mike (Terraterror) that started the usb microscope thread.  It is a great little item, doesn't take up much desk space - as I added to Mike's posting, it would be handy to have some sort of additional stand for it, because the larger the item you want to photograph whole - eg a halfcrown, then the further away you need to position the scope.  I put a small pile of books on the desk to give it some height. :D

one of the things i use to keep any coins in, is the plastic case you get with a 35mm film the cover snaps on tight no chance of losing them.(viv)

Given the weather how about a control box cover and a good set of breatheable waterproofs.

Hi All

How about a good pair of cycling gloves - padded gel palms ,fingerless ones for summer ,full ones for winter .I have found them strong durable and comfortable great if the grounds hard  -they also let your hands breath and no more blisters  ;D ;D

Debbie- I have ruied a few wellies in my time by the top of the shovel slicing through the rubber sole- if you know someone handy with metalworking get them to turn the top of the spade over or weld a piece of metal onto the top. edge
