Hey Nobby, thanks for your comments on the artifact as shown.this piece was found on the land adjacent to Pembroke castle, which is also land on which the original priory stood.
It's solid brass, but, the center boss "I think," it shows the Tudor rose, bearing in mind that Pembroke castle was the beginning of the Tudor dynasty.
It was detected at a depth of over nine inches!!
I have included a hopefully clearer photo,a bit more of a close up.
Thanks for looking.

I think it represents a flower and probably a rose but the connection between Pembroke and a Tudor rose is tenuous at best as there was no Tudor rose until well after Henry VII came to power and even then it has to be in colour really to show the combined red and white roses of the houses of York and Lancaster. Undecided

Sorry to be a doubting Thomas but I would point out that the leaves are definitely not rose. All the depictions of the Tudor variety are quite clearly rose so I think I'd agree with Geoff that although it is a flower, it's not a rose.
Better luck next time Chris.

It does remind me of Jacobs Ladder.  See pic. I read somewhere it's the County flower of Derbyshire. Wonder if there's a connection there ?

Hmmmmm!Derbyshire, interesting, real food for thought, now, what was that doing in Pembroke? Could it be some kind of horse decor/mount,and of what age?
Anyway, thanks for the input Val,but as I said,it will go back in the drawer, not in the scrap bucket..... Who knows ??

It wouldn't go in the scrap bucket if it was mine either. Whatever it is it's very nice and very interesting.

Could be in the same class as the Hunting button I found near Saundersfoot.  Belonged to a family that lived in Surrey !!! must have been over for the Tenby National Hunt Races.

Or maybe it was some Lord or Knight visiting.

Many thanks for your comments,as you say Tudor or not I like it a lot,but I still believe it has a history, and I am now even more determined to trace its origin and possible date,Val has put me onto a path that may well reveal something interesting!!...... Work in progress!!👍
