Here's a challenge for you guys!

Tudor coin found last week when out with Taff - measure 1.8cms across.

Any suggestions? Hoping its not a Lizzy!

Cheers
Neil

I'm afraid I have to agree on both as well, a Lizzy and a Penny, and by the looks of it, it could be a Crescent Mint Mark, which would date it to 1587-1589. Spink 2580.

Yes that's what it looks like but I think your measurement is out. Are you certain it's 18mm?

If it's 18mm, then it's a Lizzie halfgroat, sixth issue, mintmark crescent, Spink 2579.

Thanks guys - very much appreciated. I have vowed to positively fully ID all my coins this year, rather than just classing them as a Lizzy or an Edward.

Got a lot more historical coins to come - one a day will do rather than all at once I think.

This Lizzie certainly is 18mm Geoff - my finger tip is just less than 2 cm's wide! Grin Grin
