Hi can anyone tell me what the rules regarding detecing in Alcudia Majorca? Im off for a ten day break in May and there is a beach 50 meteres from my hotel, obviously I would like to take my detector, can I in fact take my detector?and give it a go.  I know a few have detected in mainland spain. Any useful information would be appreciated. Many thanks Dave Grin Grin

I have a friend who has a home near Torevecja (not sure spelling)  he told me that to detect the beaches you need permission from local authorities and they are very strict on that. as for the islands im not sure. Probably casa-dos would be the man to ask...also i think there used to be a guy on here that lived/lives out there, perhaps someone will come up  with a name for you. sorry cant be more specific

well there you go cant ask for a clearer answer than that, nice one Geoff. i can understand them not wanting anyone detecting on inland sites but the beaches??
makes you think what UK laws are like when you see at the larger organised UK rallies many flags from Germany, Holland, Denmark and even Eastern Europe at last years Weekend wanderers rally!
what would have happened if "Johnny Foreigner" had found that saxon burial in Wantage.......?
Interesting thought isnt it?

Yes Kev, Having worked and lived in both France (5 years) and Ireland (3 years), two of the most intolerant  countries regarding metal detecting (guilty until proven innocent), It really annoys me at times when people rant on about the laws being tough here in the uk.

Geoff its no wonder that so many people come from Europe to U.K. rallies then. Didn't realise France was that bad, i knew Ireland could be strict.

Hi all many thanks for that also just had a reply from J.RIGBY NCMD heres what he says so I will prob give it a go

Hi
Although it is illegal to metal detect in spain, my friends have just been
to Majorca and detected without any problems on santa ponsa beach, although
I have heard tales of detectors being confiscated, most people say if you do
it early in the morning so you are not disturbing anyone it should be OK.
 Hope this helps
