Hello , I have just managed to borrow a minelab Safari for a couple of weeks with the option to buy it if I like it. The plan is to go over some of the fields I've done with the Deus to see if it can find anything thats been missed. All the fields are pasture and I've given a few of them a good going over in the past, I've had hammered off all of them.
I'm looking forward to seeing how it does. Any tips from you folks greatly appreciated.

If you want to put it through it's paces against the Deus I think it'll take a bit of doing but it could hold it's own on most things.
I'd suggest
  
All Metal,
Low Trash,
Threshold (barley audible) suggest 8,
Sensitivity 18 or Auto,
Signal Volume 12 (with phones) higher without,
SWING SLOW & LOW

p.s.  if you get fed up with the iron signals you can change over to RELIC for a while  but ALL METAL is best.

the Deus is great in iron and trash  infested soil but i have heard a couple of people who own a Deus AND an explorer say the safari/explorer might  have a little edge depthwise . go with all metal mode ignore the grunty dirty noises and dig the sweet sounds.if there is little trash go with sensitivity of 15 - 18 to get the best depth without it becoming too unstable.

Thanks, I'm interested to see how the fbs does. I've been over with the Deus in a few different frequencies and found stuff each time, just interested to see if an fbs machine picks up anything else.

Let us know how you get on Will. I've only had my Safari a couple of weeks but I love it. As Val said slow and low are the magic words.

I've looked longingly at the Deus but wouldn't dream of spending that sort of money for the sort of fields I've got and the amount of detecting I do.

I love my Safari. All it needs is some promising land.

 :D Val you can be chairwoman. I've got to say Minelabs are cracking machines and the Safari is absolutely simple to use.
I think this one is a keeper, In the last couple of weeks it's found me a silver Vicci florin, two cartwheel pennies loads of pre decimal, and a few pounds in spending money.

It's not the machine Dylan admit it it's the battery ;D ;D

Geoff  you're right it's either that fantastic battery or it's the good looking fella using the detector [and I do mean me ]  ;D ;D
Did I mention that cracking battery makes the Minelab a lot lighter and that you can keep swinging for a lot longer, I think everybody
should have one.

If you discriminate to  -10 you're cutting Iron out.  Trouble with that idea is recovery speed is also cut.

I prefer, conduct audio, manual sens, high trash, with -10 out, dig to -4  :)
