I want  To know how dangerous are cows
I don't mind in my experience of detecting in a field when it is empty
But once  while I was in the zone so to speak I noticed when looking up the farmer had returned the cows from milking
I made a retreat through two field
Freaked right out seeing about one hundred maybe more coming into the field I was detecting
I went through two hedges thinking that the cows could possibility get into the next fields
Am I sad or what
Thing was I had already had two hammered and felt was it my own anxiety
Help please

know calm down and have a nice cup of tea  Smiley Smiley

cows are more curious than dangerous but if they get spooked they all charge around regardless of who's in the field , the ones you gotta watch is the ones without udders , they are bulls and can be uumm nasty , i try to avoid cows and go elswhere if their in the field just dont like the big stupid animals

the only person a cow see.s is the farmer. so its strange for them to see a detectorist..most of the time they are ok..they.ll always come over to you its natural.show them your not affraid of them..but yes some are not as friendly as others so just keep an eye on them..never really turn your back on them.
myself i just tell them straight im your friend.lol..works for me !!

I went in a field with young black and white cows and they was fine, they just walked behind me and watched what I was doing, they had the odd sniff for a hour or so and off they went.
But the big beige cows and the brown ones no way never again, I looked around and one scraped his foot across the grass Shocked I shouted to joross what I saw the next thing they charged after us  lucky we was only 40meters from the hedge row so we dived in and waited in till the cows went.

So never again will I go in a cow field.

They can be very dangerous, I tend to take some garage music with me as it placates them somewhat

Yes I think reggae might work but you might have to beef the sound up a bit. Smiley

so lets get this right, it's not the cows that blow their horns that
are dangerous, but it's the udder ones. Or is that just all bull.

On the whole Cows are just curious. Most are quite harmless and will run for their lives if you threaten them.  BUT   there are the odd ones that are territorial and will face you down. The warning sign is the foot scraping. With sheep it's foot stamping and both will snort.
The main thing to remember is  NEVER go into a field with Cows and Calves. A new Mommy Cow will do you a lot more harm than any Bull.
One put a Farmer friend of mine in hospital for weeks last year and he's been handling live stock all his life.
I noticed when I was in the next field to a herd of yearlings, I took my ear phones off because they were rubbing so the detector  started bleeping, they went absolutely bonkers, running all over the place and making loads of noise.
Curious or no I don't trust them and STEER clear. Grin
