I have been down to my local beach at Tresaith and a detectorist had been on the beach but he had not filled in any of his holes he is the sort of detectorist that gets us a bad name and banned from some inland sites .

Yes, unfortunately some detectorists think there's no need to fill in holes on the beach. But what if someone sprained an ankle or fell over a hole. On one of my beaches, people ride horses and I wouldn't want to be responsible for any accident to a horse or rider. Anyway its just a matter of politemess and not giving people any excuse to criticise us for leaving the place in a mess.

this would depend on if its in the wet sand or dry sand. Dry sand i always cover the hole over but in the wet sand i don't see the need to as the tide will cover them when it comes in, and i always go at low tides so i know it won't be long before the tide will cover them for me.

No, even in wet sand there's going to be some space of time when the hole exists. Doesn't take much to fill it back.

I agree with win on this one wet sand dry sand no difference it's like say on stubble don't worry cos be ploughed soon but most fields have right always ifs my daughter out walk she feel in hole broke her leg I'd be looking for the detectorist and he wood be detecting out his/hers a## cos that's we're his detector and spade wood be alone with my foot and same with wet sand kids play in sea all take trip and fall and quite easy seeped away or and drown

The post made by Zeus made me shudder.  i never thought i would read such a comment on this site. he is the only one on here that thinks its ok not to fill in holes on wet sand. children run on the wet sand and in the shallow water and the unfilled holes can break their legs. unbelievable comment but sadly true that some people do not fill their holes in. lets hope we never read such a comment again.

I find it hard to believe that club members still don't fill in holes properly on Rally's....Plough or pasture....some look like a grenade has gone off....I often try to pat them down better as I go passed in case anyone thinks I did it  !  Undecided

I HAVE NOT SEEN PARENTS FILL IN THE HOLES THAT THEY DIG WHEN THEY TRY AND SHOWOFF HOW BIG A HOLE THEY DIG. SOME ARE LARGE ENOUGH TO COVER A MINI

This is an old chestnut with the other being that rubbish should be taken away.

I have seen the target (rubbish) left by the find spot on rallies!  Personally, I think all should have a rubbish bag on them before they are allowed to roam.........but I wasn't popular when I suggested this last time!

It's so easy and quick to fill holes on sand and stubble. Just do it and get in the habit!

When in someones field I always try to fill in the holes as if it were your own back garden. In essence thats what any field is to the man who owns it.  If for no other reason, then show a little respect.
The beach I'm a bit more liberal with. If the water is chasing me back up I very often don't fill the hole but further up I make the effort. It may not be as smooth as mother nature does it, but at least it's not a huge great hole.
Shame the visitors don't adopt the same attitude instead of leaving the place looking like the Somme.
Remember what Granny used to say.........2 wrongs don't make a right.
