 hello peeps just dug this up in my old girls garden half hour ago.is it some sort of incendiary bomb tailfin

yip it is just checked it out.i know that swansea was bombed,but this one must have strayed over the mountain to betws.it was 20ft from the neighbours house and 30ft from my mams.ooh that was lucky

Looks like the tail fin of a 51mm Mortar. The end will have threads on it, for the primer to screw into.The holes in the tail fin were venting holes for the primer to set off augmenting cartridges which propelled the mortar

nice one phil ,yes it has got a screw thread on the end and a percussion cap with a dent in it.how did that get into my mams garden?that would have been even more deadly than an incendiary .i know that the americans used to train on betws mountain ( mynydd y gwair ).surely my nan would have mentioned  a mortar landing in the garden.lol.maybe they got the top soil from somewhere else,strange

That's not an incendiary bomb fin they are not that shape, they had a round piece at the top and the fins tapered down to the body of the bomb. They were fairly thin metal not as solid as the fins shown which is a mortar fin.
I remember going over to the River Taff during the war as a child and looking for the holes where they had gone into the mud and pulling out the fins after they had burnt out !! So much for health and safety.
