Title: yesterdays goodies
Post by: Mike on June 11, 2012, 04:48:27 PM
attended a charity rally near alcester yesterday with hammerd and hoovergeorge , things started really well when i won the raffle , a nice coin collection box   :) :) :)

the detecting started slowly but halfway through the morning session up popped the fob followed a little while later by the nice livery type button and a george 1/2d along with the worlds supply of bullet cases and bullets .

after lunch and off to new fields and more bullets , bullets , bullet cases and still more bullets , then up popped a very worn fibula which has seen better days , wanderd off into another field a very late on up came a very small thin coin which i had no idea on but was later informed by steven king and the organisers it was an ALCESTER FARTHING TRADE TOKEN  :o :o
and a scarcefind indeed (any info most welcome)

a great day out with lots of good mates and a few interesting bits as well , happy days  :) :) :)

Good going Mike. I love 17thC trade tokens, not sure why ???
Can't be 100% but I think your was issued by MATTHIAS CRABB who was a draper in Alcester, It's an unknown date but going by style, it's more than likely from around the 1650's-60's ;)

date of around 1660 was the general opinion on the day by the local lads who have only ever had 4 similar tokens so well pleased , its so very small and thin

It does seem to be a "proximity to towns thing" I find quite few down here, I've had 9 this year so far and last year over 20.
