Jassy, bit too far away to help (Bonnie Scotland) but it takes time to learn the Explorer so bear with it. I'm relatively experienced but it took me some time to learn (still haven't mastered it).
I search with only nails disc'ed out. Auto sens, tone variability high. Conductive sounds. Sounds long on clean sites, normal on junky sites. I listen to the sound and watch the meter. If its top left or bounces to top left, its iron. Top right is silver and copper. Hammered come a bit lower, top to mid right. Lead is a low sound in the bottom third with foil usually only showing half a cursor on the bottom. Anything other than iron or foil, I dig.
Speaking to Nigel at Regtons, he advised me to try searching in iron mask mode with only one bar disc'ed out. This tends to make the sounds a bit more stable especially on iron. As with all machines though, large or holed iron can come in with a good signal. Keep at it, its well worth it!
