had my first day out detecting in 6 months yesterday, went back to my permission and im going over the fields again after upgrading from my garret to a safari, either i missed a hell of a lot or it was worth every penny upgrading. i found a quite worn william 3rd 6 pence,a handfull of pre deccies, and this bell.i cleaned all the earth out and it still makes a lovely ringing sound. if anyone could date it for me that would be great.

Congrats on the up grade Daz. I love my Safari. I can def. say that if you walk over it, you'll find it.

The Bell could be off a bar/hoop thats attached to the harness of a shire horse.  Bells and ribbons were and still are popular on this bit of the harness.

Well done Daz, there is usually/sometimes initials next to the slit on the underside, these are the makers mark for the foundry it was made. Yours has a drilled suspension loop which usually points to it being one of the earlier 16th-17th examples Wink
