Title: WATERPROOF COIL ?? Post by: DIGGA on August 06, 2009, 09:20:11 PM HI FOLKS JUST WANTED TO ASK A QUESTION ,,,,,,,, HOW WATERPROOF IS A COIL ??? ??? THE REASON I ASK IS THAT A MEDIEVAL SITE OF MINE HAS A RIVER RUNNING THROUGH IT ,,,,,,,,,, WOULD IT BE OK TO TOTALLY SUBMERGE THE ENTIRE COIL AS PARTS OF THE RIVER ARE 2 FOOT DEEP ,,,,,, AND WOULD IT BE WORTH LOOKIND IN RIVERS OR BEST TO STICK TO THE RIVERBANK ??? ??? ??? THANKS

Yes your OK up to the control box. The river bed is always worth a search have you watched the shallow water hunting dvd? People have thrown coins into water since celtic times plus they had to cross rivers without the aid of bridges untill quite recently in most areas. So give it a go and good luck. This means any one with the Minelab Sovereign with its original Coinsearch coil (or later Sovereign as they were considered the best coil for many years and would be used to replace the stock 800 coil).
Older Tesoro's would suck in water if the coil was plunged into cold water on a hot day. Location Technology solid coils (light grey in colour) would absorb salt water into the plastic. This caused the cupronickel response to fall dramatically over time whilst copper response remained the same. The Altek Shadow is another that comes to mind that should not be risked.
