This a copper-alloy belt fitment with moulded lion's head design. The fitment was attached to the belt via its rectangular loop, and is one of a pair that formed a clasp fastener. Clasps of this general type were in use on military uniform from the Napoleonic period onwards, and were still in use on dress uniform in the early 20th century.

so they fastened like a hook and eye sort of method Huh and between Georgian to Victorian ....thanks kind sir  Smiley

ha ha ha ha ;DD..that's the culprits !!! brings back memory's of great pain as I was always playing about with mine and screaming in agony as it sprag back into me knuckles and sometimes lip !!!! :ooo....kids now days don't realise what these missed  Grin

Don't know about them but I did have a 'Waspy Belt' back in the 60's  16inches long had to stretch to fit. Mind you that was when I'd still got a waist-line. Roll Eyes

i remember my first of many snake belts ....1965 I was just starting school and had cast off school shorts from a neighbours son who was twice my size hence the need for the snake belt black and red one I was proper impressed ha ha ha
