Hi folks
Turned up this buckle this evening, on area of pasture,
Approx 8 inches down, euroace, max sens, iron disc.
I assume it is a shoe buckle, but it is my first with such an ornate finish.
2 questions,
Is it a shoe buckle ?
Any idea of age ?

Also had what at first looked like a bullet, but it is hollow,
Any ideas.
Thanks in advance
Adrian

Hey "Artcat" what a great and very ornate shoe buckle, at a guess i would say it was late 1700's,very very nice find, havevyou tested to see if it's silver,as from your photograph it looks a bit that way, well done, seems like your well on your way...👏👏👏👏👍😁

Sadly, no rotten eggs,
But still chuffed,
tempted to do some more cleaning, but afraid of losing detail, any advice.

That is a beautiful buckle. The date is more likely to be 1660 - 1700
Have a look on C J's metal detecting 'Buckles through the Ages' 17th to 18th cent. Drawings. No.30 is a dead ringer.

Thanks Val
I'm not sure if it makes much difference but the drawing has no chape/bar whereas my buckle had one that had rusted away.
It is still the most ornate item I have found yet, and I can't wait to get back onto the field.
Many thanks

If you go to the same site you will see 'text' in this it explains that at a certain time a mixture of metals became popular in the manufacture. That's why so few complete buckles are found (unless your name is Celticspikey).  Roll Eyes Grin

If it is an arrowhead x 2 then you definitely have an obligation to inform the FLO.
Very well done, could be you've got some very historical earth beneath your feet

Thanks Ron,
Yes your right, no significant age to these.
But all part of the mixed bag of finds that make this such a facinating hobby.
Cheers
